Notes:
We classify members of Congress as liberal Democrats ("demlib"), moderate Democrats ("demmod"), moderate Republicans ("repmod") or conservative Republicans ("repcon") based on the average ideology of their campaign donors during a given congressional election cycle. Donor ideology is based on time-invariant ideology measures of the DIME database (Adam Bonica, Database on Ideology, Money in Politics, and Elections, Stanford University Libraries, 2016). Variable names indicate the year in which a given Congress was elected, from the 108th Congress elected in 2002 to the 115th Congress elected in 2016. See referenced paper below for further details.
